The first sat by the river
his roots entangled into water
his branches were long
and I rested my head on his stem
letting my ear hear his ancient voice
whisper me old secrets
The other stood deep in a forest
he was hidden and difficult to find
I went to him
when I really needed him
and his deep silence never failed
to comfort me
The third one was wilder
he was a mountain pine
with white moss all around him
his knowledge was of the moving Spirits
wind was rushing through his crown
and he got me going further and further
I asked them
if when I was not with them
I could carry a gift from them
and each gave me a cone
and just by touch
my hands holding and feeling
they spoke to me
