Huff a mei at du skulle spørre så direkte at jeg føler meg kallet til å svare. Gode venner kastet den niende etter meg for mange år siden og maste vettet av meg om at den måtte jeg lese. Jeg så gjorde. Opplevde boka som en typisk nordamerikansk New Age vrøvlebok som cashet inn på interessen for indianere og jungler og fjell i Langtvekkistan (Sør-Amerika). Siden da er det bygd opp et anseelig forretningsimperium (pengemaskin) på disse kommersielle fantasiene, ser jeg nå på den siden du henviser til. Bare trist å se, når det finnes så mye virkelighet der ute som man heller kunne bruke sin tid på.

Jeg har ikke mulighet nå for å grave fram mitt eksemplar av boka fra dens velfortjente grav og konkretisere min kritikk. Jeg nøyer meg med å henvise til andre kritikere, som jeg sier meg stort sett fullt og helt enig med:

We don't need fear, humiliation, guilt or shame. Contemplate, meditate, and follow your intuitions and dreams as you go through your spiritual evolution. Fact or fiction, it doesn't matter. Truth is what you make it. Life's too short and too complicated to deal with reality. Make your own reality. Subjective validation and communal reinforcement lead to bliss.

This New Age subjectivism and relativism encourage people to believe that reality is whatever you want it to be. The line between fact and fiction gets blurry and obscured. Of course, fiction has its place in a satisfying life, but so should fact. The methods of science may not be perfect, but when it comes to getting the facts straight, they are better than any of the methods developed by New Age gurus.

Redfield’s book jacket lied to me in several ways. I have read books like this one and it is not a prophecy. It is a didactic regurgitation of simplistic occult notions that have been expressed by more or less talented writers and fringe groups for well over a century. Redfield’s style is cynical. He must take his audience for pathetic fools. His book, if nothing else, seems to describe a pyramid scheme with him at the top of his "spiritual" franchise which expects people to support whoever reveals the 10 Insights to them.

This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown aside with great force.

As I trudged my way though the arid, jargon-mined desert that is Redfield's novel, buffetted by barrage upon barrage of brutally prosaic, 80's self-help clichés, wincing at the glare of the shiny, shifting, new-age platitudes, I couldn't help but ask myself time and again: What in God's name do people see in this banal, grating screed?

Why The Celestine Prophecy is all Wrong on Ancient Mayans
Redfield did a great disservice to the Maya people, not by erroneously throwing their ancestors into this story, but by saying that the Maya civilization mysteriously vanished by raising their level of energy to a vibration that made them invisible! With that nonsense he invalidates everything he's tried to teach in his book. First, the Maya civilization did not disappear. We now know that between 800 and 900 AD (got your dates wrong too, Redfield), many Maya sites in the Peten region ceased to record events on their stone monuments. Most likely, continual warfare resulted in the collapse of the status quo that supported the construction of these monuments. But the Maya people did not vanish any more than did the inhabitants of Italy disappear after the collapse of the Roman Empire. Archeological evidence indicates that Maya sites in the northern Yucatan were actually expanding at the same time that their relatives were abandoning their cities in the southwest. It's theorized that the inhabitants of these northern sites were refugees from the old sites, bringing their skills and knowledge with them.
In any case, the Maya civilization eventually suffered the fate of all civilizations throughout recorded history-it failed. And there are many valuable lessons we can glean from that failure, if we are willing to exercise our intellect enough to learn the truth. What Redfield offers us instead, is the lazy way out. His tale is a worthless smoke screen of pseudo-facts that gives us nothing of value because they simply are not valid. What's more, this misinformation isn't fair to the Maya people who are still very much alive today, with a culture that is rich in spirituality and values we would do well to study. The civilization collapsed, but the people did not disappear. Unfortunately, today the Maya, and all that they can teach us, are at risk of truly vanishing, not by "vibrating highly enough" but by the systematic genocide of the Guatemalan and Mexican governments.

Ja,ja,ja!!! Du set ord på det! Og det gjeld ikkje berre indianarkulturar,men alt anna eksotisk og spirituellt som er salgbart også.
Du skal få ein marsipangris av meg for det du skreiv der
